School Supplies Needed

Arlington Charities will be collecting school supplies, beginning in June. Each year, the agency distributes school supplies and limited new school clothing to approximately 1700 AISD students. This is one of the agency’s oldest programs and touches many families in our area. School supplies are purchased in bulk with donor contributions and are packed in bags, specific to grade level.

In an effort to make access to this program easier for clients, the agency conducts eligibility interviews and distributes the school supply bags on the same day. In 2002, more than 1700 students received supplies. The approximate cost per student is $12.00 per bag. It is hoped the school supply program will be as successful in 2003 as in previous years. Arlington Charities has always been able to provide supplies to grades pre-K through 12, and that is the goal for this year as well.

To find out how you can help with this program, please call (817) 275-1511. Donations and volunteers will be needed. Remember! School starts in August – deadline for donations is Friday, August 8th. Packing of bags will be Saturday, August 9th. Interviews and distribution begin Tuesday, August 12th. Check your July newsletter for addition information and reminders.

The Arlington Charities Board, Staff, and Volunteers agree that this is perhaps our most important program for youth and children. In order to perform well in school, most kids need to like school. And in order to like school, most kids need to fee accepted and “fit in.” Showing up on the first day of school without proper supplies cannot be healthy for our youth. While we cannot fill every need, each item provided is one less item the family needs to purchase. Please help us make this year a success for our kids.
